Three goals, three points and by Nigel Pearson’s reckoning one of Leicester’s best displays of the season.
This was a perfect response to ‘the blip’.
The key numbers;
2 – On Christmas Day Leicester City had 37 points from their opening 23 matches. From that position to make them competitive in the automatic promotion race they needed to average roughly two points per game until the end of the season. That would put the Foxes on 83 points. Since Christmas the Foxes have taken 20 points from 10 league games. You can work out the average.
14 – This was Kasper Schmeichel’s 14th clean sheet of the season – completed with a stunning save with the score at 0-0. Leicester have now kept as many clean sheets this season as they did in the whole of last season. Of course it’s not just Schmeichel who is responsible for that. Leicester’s defence, marshalled by the ever-present Wes Morgan, continues to have a remarkable season.
19 – This was Andy King’s first goal in 19 appearances for the club. With 5 in the bag so far this season he’s eclipsed the 4 league goals he managed last season. But King remains well short of the double digits he managed in 2008/09, 2009/10 and 2010/11.
